More Guns, Less Crime Revisited
by Jennifer Freeman

There is no such thing as gun control. There are laws that prevent or make it more difficult for people to obtain guns, but those laws only apply to those who choose to obey them. Criminals, who by their very nature do not obey the law, are not affected by so-called "gun control."

The Liberty Belles and gun rights supporters everywhere have been repeating this point like a mantra for years. And yet, unbelievably, there are many who still don't get it.

A recent "man on the street" interview in Washington D.C. by CNS News revealed just how pervasive the anti-gun mentality remains to this day. Amazingly, the people interviewed failed to recognize that the benefits of firearm ownership far outweighs the negatives. One interviewee cited the fact that a few people buy guns legally in Virginia and sell them illegally in New York. He failed to recognize, however, that crime is much lower in Virginia where guns are legal and that "gun control" laws in New York have no effect on criminals. In fact, "gun control" is the reason that crime is high in cities like Washington D.C. and New York. Criminals know that people in D.C. and New York cannot and will not defend themselves.

Impervious to the new media, these people remain under the hypnotic spell of the dinosaur media. And they vote.

They refuse to think objectively or logically, preferring instead to be lead around the nose by the likes of Rosie O'Donnell. These people are the reason law abiding gun owners have watched our rights whittle away to nothing. We suffer while they float along blissfully unaware.

Legislators often attempt to justify anti-gun laws by tying the law to a crime. Sometimes the crime is an actual event. Sometimes the crime is a "what if" scenario with nothing to back it up. Like banning the .50-caliber rifle because a terrorist might shoot down an airplaine with it, for example. But it's not crime that causes anti-gun laws to pass. It's the media whose business thrives on tragedy. And it's the Jell-O heads of society who prefer to not to think or do for themselves, but would rather transfer all of their power to government.

The blissfully unaware, by their ignorance and uninformed voting decisions are just as responsible for anti-gun legislation as the media, the education system, anti-defense politicians, and anti-defense organizations. In the twenty-first century, there is no longer an excuse for being so ignorant.

They are not our enemies, however. They are our fellow Americans. They are our neighbors, our relatives, and our friends. Clearly gun rights activists have spent too much time preaching to the choir. It is our fault for not reaching out and helping our fellow citizens to see the light. Many of us have experienced this transformation first-hand.

When reaching out to the uninformed, it's important to be patient and tolerant. Don't expect to transform someone from a lifetime of brainwashing after giving a ten minute lecture. The best way is to set a positive example, be open, and only breach the subject when appropriate. But, get out there! Find one person and get to work! Your rights depend on them.
